2021 concluded with a bittersweet goodbye for the Atlas® family and our customers. This past December, Alexander’s Mobility Services (0217) announced the retirement of longtime friend and Professional Van Operator (PVO) Robert (Bob) Pound.

Bob was introduced to the moving and relocation profession at a very young age. His father, Art, was also a driver for Alexander’s and was a mentor to many PVOs over the years. As a second-generation mover, Bob entered the industry early and began working for Alexander’s in 1970. He earned his commercial license in 1972 and became an Atlas qualified driver in 1982 when Alexander’s joined the van line. Throughout his tenure as a PVO, Bob accumulated 2,418,571 safe driving miles.

Over the course of his career, Bob wore many hats and received prestigious recognitions from the Alexander’s team. Bob was an invaluable member of the Alexander’s Driver Advisory Panel, a volunteer team that served as a liaison between Alexander’s and PVOs. In 2003 he was presented with Alexander’s Milton M. Hill Spirit Award—an annual honor voted on by the entire company to recognize the one individual who best personifies Milt Hill’s commitment to customers and excellence.

His accolades also included recognitions from the entire moving and storage industry. In 2007, he received the Super Van Operator (SVO) Award for Lifetime Achievement. The American Trucking Association, formerly known as the American Moving and Storage Association, sponsors the annual SVO Awards to recognize the industry’s top household goods transportation professionals.

“Bob is truly remarkable and one of our favorite people,” said Don Hill, CEO of Alexander’s Mobility Services. “He was by far the most requested PVO and the epitome of our company’s ‘whatever it takes’ mantra—earning him the nickname ‘No Problem Bob’ from his outstanding customer service. I am extremely proud to have worked with Bob all these years and have him as part of the Alexander’s family.”

In typical Bob fashion, he retired quietly as he dropped off his trailer and headed back home after completing another one of his many cross-country moves. Bob left behind a happy transferee, lots of candy deliveries to the Alexander’s Operations teams, and a remarkable legacy of excellence. Don Hill and the entire Alexander’s family wish Bob a happy retirement with sincere thanks for a remarkable career.
