50 Years of Fox Moving & Storage

Beginning in a terraced house in a small town five decades ago, Fox Moving & Storage is now celebrating their fifty-year anniversary and is a leading fixture in the company removals industry.

Steered by his family’s involvement in the moving and storage business since the 1920s, Roy Fox purchased a
rundown, local removal company, J.G. Stephens & Sons, in 1971 and renamed the company Fox the Mover. Two years after Fox’s onset in 1973, Roy and his family moved to a detached house with a “suspiciously” large garden. That following year, the garden became a site for a new 200-container warehouse for the company.

Over the course of the company’s half century, Fox has experienced exponential growth and continued to expand its footprint. Since its inception, the company has grown from a small family-run business servicing South Wales specifically, to a nationwide network with multiple locations. By providing moving and storage solutions throughout the UK, Europe, and the rest of the world, the company now meets the needs of international, corporate, and personal clients alike.

Fox’s involvement with Atlas began in 2007 when a deal to acquire Atlas International’s Southampton depot was brokered by Jack Griffin and Paul Fox. The relationship developed from here with Fox becoming Atlas’ UK agent.

While still family-owned and operated today, three generations have successfully carried on this tradition of excellence. In 1977, Roy’s son Paul joined the business ‘on the road’ at just sixteen years old. Both would go on to become President of the British Association of Removers in 1984 and 2004, respectively. Then in 2011, Paul’s son Daniel came on board to run the Cardiff depot after completing university. Daniel’s younger brother Michael joined the business in 2017 and even Paul’s wife, Cheryl, manages sales in Cardiff.

“Through the 44 years I have been in business, I have seen many ups and downs. However, these COVID years have placed continuous challenges on the business at a whole new level. It is a fact that the harder you work the luckier you get, and our proactive approach has led to our having one of the most successful 12 months of business in our long history. We even acquired another business last year and will be building another warehouse facility in 2022. International business has remained extremely challenging, but we are adapting and meeting increasing customer needs. The Atlas family remain a key partner and we look forward to meeting up with all our friends and colleagues across the Atlantic in the near future.”
