Guardian Relocation, Inc. (1040) in Ft. Wayne, IN knows giving back is an integral part of being a good business partner in their community. That’s why they’re making it a point to volunteer with different organizations in their area.
“Our owner, Jay Fuson, wants all Guardian Relocation offices to be involved in their communities. This resulted in an outreach to our local chamber of commerce and an opportunity to work with the Northeastern Indiana Special Olympics,” said Rod Woodruff, General Manager at the Ft. Wayne office. “We had around 10 people volunteer to work a track and field event on May 16th at Homestead High School.”
However, Guardian isn’t just donating their time. They’ve offered space in their warehouse to store different sporting goods used by the Special Olympics chapter.
“We’re storing t-shirts, pylons, stopwatches, and even the awards platform. We have a little bit of everything and we will deliver it all twice a year wherever our chapter needs it in Northeastern Indiana,” said Rod.
The day before the track and field event, Professional Van Operator Terry Vice used a straight truck to deliver and unload everything needed for the competition. The next morning, Guardian employees arrived to keep times and scores, measure distances and assist the participants.
“It was a great team building activity for our agency and we learned some valuable lessons from the athletes. We worked hand in hand for the common good, no titles in the way. As we worked, we saw the way the athletes encouraged one another. They wished their competitors good luck, tried their hardest, and simply loved the opportunity to participate. It wasn’t about winning or losing to them,” Rod explained.
All Guardian Relocation offices will continue to be more hands on in their communities. The Indianapolis office (1032) recently planted trees at an apartment complex in conjunction with Keep Indianapolis Beautiful.
Rod added, “It’s a great way to network with other organizations in your community. Plus, at the end of the day you’ll take a step back and appreciate the experience.”
