Approaching their three year anniversary as a partner of Move For Hunger, DMS Moving Systems (0800) decided to host a special fall event to raise awareness, funds, and food donations.

DMS hosted a month-long event called Four Weeks of Fitness and Fundraising , benefiting Move For Hunger. The event consisted of  weekly activities such as a healthy breakfasts, salad bar lunches, morning walks, and pasta lunches, that required a  non-perishable food donation in order to participate. DMS team members could also buy an extra vacation day by donating $25 to Move For Hunger or donating 25 non-perishable food items. Lesser donations earned half-days off or the opportunity to leave early on a Friday.

The goal was to raise $1,000 in a month. DMS breezed by that goal with $1,080 raised, plus four large boxes of non-perishable food delivered to Gleaners Community Food Bank in Taylor, MI.

In addition to the food and monetary donations, five DMS team members participated in the Detroit Free Press Marathon, a 5k and half marathon,as representatives of Move For Hunger. A few team members ran the 5k route to support Move For Hunger in Detroit. The remaining team members ran the full half marathon, which took them into parts of Canada, and represented Move For Hunger on an international level.

"All in all, the entire month brought camaraderie, team work, the ability to give back, and an opportunity to showcase Move For Hunger. It is an amazing non-profit organization that is working so hard to combat hunger in the U.S.," said Alexandra.
