Elk Grove Village takes its name from the great antlered animals that once roamed wild in northern Illinois. The community dates its beginning to 1834 when pioneer farmers from the New England states settled in. Thanks to the efforts of urban developers in the 1950s, Elk Grove Village took off as a planned development and grew with its proximity to transportation and economic activity throughout the region.
