Atlas World Group Announces Executive Retirement

EVANSVILLE, IND. (January 3, 2018) – Atlas World Group, Inc., the parent company of Atlas Van Lines, one of the nation’s leading moving companies, announces the retirement of Glen Dunkerson after 40 years of service to the company. Dunkerson served the company as CEO from 2008 through 2016 and Chairman of the Board since 2009.

Dunkerson began his career with Atlas in 1978 as a dispatcher. Since that time he has served as Assistant Vice President of Atlas' Relocation Services Group; Vice President, Claims Administration; and Senior Vice President & General Manager of Operations for Atlas' Specialized Transportation Group (STG). In 2006, he was promoted to President and Chief Operating Officer of Atlas Van Lines and in 2008, to Vice Chairman of Atlas World Group.

Among his many accomplishments while at Atlas World Group, Dunkerson is recognized for his development of Atlas quality initiatives that ensure the company’s nearly 500 interstate moving agents across the U.S. and Canada are striving for industry superiority and the uppermost quality of customer service. He was also instrumental in embracing technology and insuring the company met changing consumer expectations throughout his tenure, introducing both moveAtlas™, a free, easy-to-use mobile application for consumers for moving preparation and shipment tracking, and AtlasNet® Customer Manager (ACM), a workflow application where Atlas Agents can manage leads, appointments, estimates and registered moves from one online location. Under his leadership, the company was named the 2015 Norman P. Wagner Business of the Year by the Southwest Indiana Chamber. Dunkerson himself was also named the 2016 Richard A. Schlottman Business Person of the Year by the organization.

“I feel honored to have played a part in creating our modern-day quality initiatives and creating a more streamlined moving experience by investing in technology,” said Dunkerson. “It is not often someone begins work as a dispatcher 40 years ago and finds them self in the position of CEO. I am forever grateful for the opportunity to build my career and life with Atlas and, most importantly, work alongside the best of the best in our industry.”

Dunkerson also made a major impact in his community and industry by devoting time to meaningful causes. From 2015 to 2017, Dunkerson was board chairman for the American Moving & Storage Association (AMSA), a nonprofit trade group and the only national association for full-service moving companies. During his tenure, he was engaged with lobbying efforts such as speaking with legislators on issues that affect AMSA’s members’ livelihoods. In addition, he was focused on helping to create a highway and infrastructure funding bill for our country to better not only commerce, but the safety of everyone who travels in motor vehicles.

As a devoted and native member of the Evansville community, Dunkerson held numerous leadership roles with a variety of local councils and organizations. As an advisory board member for the University of Evansville’s Schroeder Family School of Business, he dedicated his time to creating and maintaining strong links between the school and business community. Dunkerson was also a board member for the Evansville Rotary Club , the Southwest Indiana Chamber of Commerce, and the United Way of Southwestern Indiana.

“Glen has readied Atlas for the next decade and beyond, and we’re forever grateful for his service, dedication and tact,” said Jack Griffin, Chairman and CEO of Atlas World Group.
