There are lots of movers. Before you hire one, what should you know?

To give you a firm price, a mover will need to walk through your home while you point out everything to be moved. You can also take a video survey of your home where available. This is called the in-home survey (or in-home estimate). It gives you a chance to talk with the company’s representative and get answers to your questions.

Atlas provides this in-home service in order to give you a fair and accurate price. If a mover offers you a firm price without walking through your home, take them off your list. There is an exception—with a streaming video application for your smart device, you can walk through the home in lieu of your mover. Atlas is introducing this service in November, 2016. Ask your mover about who will be working in your home. For your security, Atlas performs background checks on every employee who enters your home. You can have confidence the people serving you are trustworthy.

Before you hire a mover, ask for names of three customers who have moved in the last 60 days. Then, get in touch with those customers and ask if they would use the services of that mover again. You can also check with your local chamber of commerce and Better Business Bureau for reports and ratings on local movers.
