Moving expenses you can write off on taxes [Video]

  • Tips and tricks
Moving can be a great source of easy write-offs come tax season.

Every April, tax season arrives, and with it people scramble to file on time. A lot of that is trying to squeeze out as many write-offs as possible. Luckily, if you moved in the year prior, there are plenty available.

As we've discussed in the past, there are certain restrictions when it comes to deducting moving expenses. Namely, you can only do so after corporate relocations, and if you work at least 40 hours per week in a year.

Generally speaking, most people deduct costs like moving insurance, hiring a professional service, storage (up to 30 days), packing supplies and gas for vehicles.

But there are other costs you might not even consider, like those associated with hunting for a new house or alternate lodging during the move.

If you're ever unsure about what you can deduct, ask your accountant, or visit the IRS web portal for moving expenses.

If you hire the right moving service, you can remove undue stress and focus on other areas of your move, like taxes. Atlas Van Lines will help you with every step of the process!
