Wichita was incorporated as a city in 1870, where 123 men and one woman signed the original incorporation petition. The cow trade was popular in that area, especially with the creation of the Chisholm Trail, which originated in King Ranch in south Texas. In the 1880’s agriculture and manufacturing industries added to Wichita’s economic growth. Today, Wichita’s economy, considered one of the best in the U.S., is diverse and reflects global investments.
