Tarentum History

The land that became Tarentum was originally inhabited by the indigenous Shawnee, until they traveled down the Allegheny River in 1745. After the American Revolution, a settlement grew around Westoreland County militia log blockhouse. The settlement was incorporated as a borough in 1842.
