Pompano Beach History

Pompano Beach was named for the Florida Pompano, a fish found in Atlantic waters. The first known settlers in what is now Pompano Beach were railroad employees and their families. As railways continued to develop, the settlement moved further west from the coast. The Town of Pompano was incorporated in 1908, but would not be officially named Pompano Beach until 1947.
