Detroit History

Detroit was founded in 1701 as a fur trading post and military station dedicated to promoting patriotism in the area. In 1796, George Washington chased the British out of Detroit and claimed the city for America. But it took until 1815, after the city grew due to technological developments, for Detroit to finally be incorporated as an American city. It is now one of the largest cities in the United States.
