Danbury History

Danbury was settled in 1685 by eight families of colonists. One of the settlers, Samuel Benedict, purchased the land from the Pahquique Native Americans. He and the other settlers named the area Swampfield, but in 1687, the name was changed to Danbury. In later years, Danbury was an important military supply hub for the Continental Army during the American Revolution.
