EVANSVILLE, IND. — Atlas Van Lines, one of the nation's leading moving companies, today announces it's giving $100,239.76 to United Way's 2012 Pacesetter Campaign. The more than $100,000 donation includes a corporate gift of $26,204.03, as well as $74,035.73 fundraised by employees. As a United Way Pacesetter for two consecutive years, Atlas sets challenging goals for employees and encourages a strong commitment within the entire company.

Atlas is one of several local companies selected to participate in United Way's Pacesetter Campaign. As part of the campaign, companies are encouraged to roll out employee campaigns early and be the first group of companies to report results to the community.

Atlas met its goal to help 450 Evansville families within the first few days of campaign week through a variety of creative and proven fundraising events. Activities included drawings for prizes like sporting event tickets and gift cards, a "Smoking for United Way" ribs sale, an office game day, selling 50-cent popcorn snacks and a car wash where employees could pay money for Atlas executives to clean their cars. Employees also raised money through a pledge card campaign in which they could donate portions of their paychecks or give a one-time donation.

"Each year, we look forward to giving back to our community by supporting United Way's tireless efforts to improve the lives of those in need," said Glen Dunkerson, chairman and CEO of Atlas World Group. "Our employees look forward to making a real difference in the community we call home with their time, efforts and dollars, and we're thrilled to once again help set the pace for United Way's fundraising efforts."

"Atlas Van Lines is a true community leader, "said United Way of Southwestern Indiana's interim campaign director Gretchen Ross. "I have worked with Atlas the past two years as a pacesetter company and they continue to invent new ways to engage their employees to donate to United Way. We are blessed to have their headquarters in Evansville."

United Way is the largest philanthropic focus of Atlas Van Lines. In addition to the company-wide support of United Way's fundraising efforts, Dunkerson serves on the current United Way of Southwestern Indiana campaign cabinet. Marian Weilert Sauvey, general counsel, senior vice president and secretary of Atlas, is on the United Way of Southwestern Indiana's Board of Directors.
