EVANSVILLE, Ind.— Atlas Van Lines, one of America's leading moving companies, delivered 4,500 pairs of new shoes to nine Evansville area charities. Atlas moving vans transported thousands of pairs of gently worn and new shoes as part of a shoe collection event for Soles4Souls, an international charity.
Evansville area residents donated more than 15,000 pairs of gently-worn shoes at the March 12 St. Patrick's Day Run of Luck race in downtown Evansville. Soles4Souls cleaned and shipped the shoes worldwide to people who desperately need footwear. Through corporate partnerships, the organization also donated new shoes to the Evansville community. Atlas Van Lines supplied a moving trailer for the shoe collection and transported the donations to a Soles4Souls warehouse in Alabama. Atlas moving vans then delivered thousands of pairs of donated new shoes back to Evansville.
"Atlas participated in this effort for the first time last year," said Jack Griffin, president and COO of Atlas Van Lines. "After seeing the widespread impact that a moving company like ours could help make in several area communities, we were pleased to be here again this year. Through the generosity of those who donated shoes, we more than doubled the number of charities that received shoes this year."
The shoes were distributed by Atlas to nine area charities which included The Dream Center, East View Elementary School, Boys & Girls Club Evansville, South Spencer School Corporation, Chandler United Methodist Church, Evansville Area PTA Clothing Bank, Pentecostal House of Faith, United Caring Shelters and Greater Evansville Runners Walkers Club (Step UP). The charities will use the new shoes for programs in the community.
"By collecting more than 15,000 pairs of shoes at this year's race, we were able to surpass our previous goal," said Jim Bush, Run of Luck race director and founder. "We are so fortunate to live in a community where people care about each other and are so willing to support programs like Soles4Souls. We could not have handled the moving logistics of this collection event without the help of a major corporate relocation partner like Atlas."
Soles4Souls is a Nashville, Tennessee-based charity that collects shoes from the warehouses of footwear companies and the closets of people like you. Since 2005, Soles4Souls has given away more than 7 million pairs of new and gently worn shoes to people in over 125 countries. Visit www.soles4souls.org for more information.
