EVANSVILLE, Ind. – Atlas Van Lines, in conjunction with the United Way of Southwestern Indiana, says its "50 Ways to Help Your Neighbor Basic Needs Campaign" was a huge success. Atlas personnel and their family members spent nearly 500 hours collecting basic needs items at five area Schnuck's stores on September 24-26 and October 1-3. As a result of generous donations from the community, more than $4,000 was raised and $40,000 worth of items were donated to 24 local organizations.

"Atlas wants to thank the community for the outpouring of support and donations," said Jack Griffin, president and COO, Atlas Van Lines. "Our employees and their family members devoted time, but this campaign would not have been a success without the generous donations from the Evansville community."

Atlas participated in the campaign as part of its Atlas Gives Back program, a charitable initiative that runs throughout 2010 in honor of Atlas' 50th anniversary in Evansville.

"'The 50 Ways to Help Your Neighbor' Campaign is just a wonderful example of the caring spirit in our community," said Carol Braden-Clarke, president, United Way of Southwestern Indiana. "Atlas Van Lines has been a great supporter of United Way. This campaign was a fitting way for Atlas to celebrate their 50th anniversary in Evansville. It reflects who they are as a company — dedicated and compassionate about helping others."

Several United Way agencies benefited from the donations, including Evansville ARC.

"We were amazed at the amount of supplies we received to benefit our programs — items ranging from sippy cups, bibs, and baby wipes to CD players and food processors," said Deidra Conner, president, Evansville ARC. "The Atlas Gives Back campaign truly depicts the generosity of Atlas and the Evansville community."
