EVANSVILLE, Ind. — For the sixth consecutive year, Atlas World Group, Inc. has awarded $12,000 in scholarship money to three college students who have ties to Atlas and its subsidiaries.
The winners of the Atlas scholarships are Amy McDaniel and Rachel Davis of Evansville and Briana Erickson of El Cajon, Calif. Each recipient will receive $4,000.
"Our hard-working employees and van operators are the key to the success of our company," said Glen Dunkerson, Atlas chairman and CEO. "These scholarships are both a way to reward our employees for their work and commitment and show the value that Atlas places on education."
Rachel Davis is the daughter of Brad Davis, who works in information technology at Atlas' Evansville headquarters. Rachel, a junior at Samford University in Birmingham, Ala., received the Atlas World Group Chairman's Scholarship, which is awarded to any child of a full-time employee working at an Atlas World Group location in the U.S. or Canada. She is studying psychology and art and hopes to become an art teacher.
The Atlas Van Lines President's Scholarship, which is awarded to a child of a full-time employee working at Atlas' headquarters, was awarded to Amy McDaniel. Her mother Kristie McDaniel works in rating and distribution services for the company. Amy is a junior at the University of Southern Indiana where she studies nursing.
Briana Erickson is the daughter of Eric Erickson, a professional van operator with Atlas agent Alexander's Mobility Services in San Diego. Briana received the Atlas Van Lines Professional Van Operator Scholarship, which is awarded to a child of an Atlas-qualified professional van operator. Briana is a junior at San Diego State University studying business. She plans to pursue a career in hospital administration.
To be eligible for the awards, a student must have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher on a 4.0 scale, and be enrolled full-time as a junior or senior in an accredited university. The winner is then selected randomly from the pool of applicants.
