EVANSVILLE, Ind. — Atlas Van Lines Inc., a leader in the transportation industry, has taken another step toward ensuring its customers receive the highest quality of service. Atlas has been registered as an ISO 9001 compliant company after demonstrating that its quality management systems meet the requirements of the ISO 9001:2000 standard. The scope of the registration is for the management of relocation services, specialized transportation, and logistics services.
ISO (International Organization for Standardization) is the world's largest developer and publisher of International Standards. The ISO 9000 and ISO 14000 families are among ISO's best known standards. ISO 9001:2000 and ISO 14001 (1996 and 2004 versions) are implemented by nearly 900,000 organizations in 161 countries.
The ISO 9000 family addresses quality management and oversees how the organization fulfills the customer's quality requirements and applicable regulatory requirements, while aiming to enhance customer satisfaction and achieve continual improvement of its performance in pursuit of these objectives.
"Atlas has always followed a business model that is process-oriented. So certification was just a formalization of processes we already had in place," said Greg Hoover, senior vice president and chief marketing officer of Atlas World Group, Inc. "This is another step in moving toward greater customer satisfaction, lowering costs and increasing efficiency."
Atlas began the application process in September 2006 with a steering committee that represented all areas of the company. Certification included a three-day registration audit in January, which followed an overhaul of the company's business management systems and work processes. Atlas is certified until January 2011 and will undergo yearly audits to ensure the company is meeting its stated objectives and goals.
"ISO certification will help us fulfill two primary objectives: To maximize our work process efficiencies for internal and external audiences and to continue to improve our work processes to enhance customer satisfaction and overall profitability," said Glen Dunkerson, president and chief operating officer of Atlas Van Lines. "Certification brings great value because it's such a respected mark. It shows Atlas' commitment to integrated quality service and to providing consistency in our service programs – from interactions at our headquarters to our exchanges with companies, agents and customers."
