EVANSVILLE, Ind. — Robert Zimmerman has joined Atlas Van Lines as senior vice president and general manager of operations, bringing three decades of transportation experience to the Evansville, Ind.-based company.
Zimmerman began his career working on the docks for Spector Freight Systems and climbed his way up the transportation industry ladder, serving in various senior leadership roles for Yellow Freight and, most recently, as president and CEO of USF Holland.
At Atlas, he will be responsible for consolidating and uniting the company's two major operating units — the Relocation Services Group and the Specialized Transportation Group. Through these divisions, Atlas transports household goods, commodities and special products such as fine art, store fixtures and museum exhibits across North America. Zimmerman's primary focus will be to utilize new and existing manpower, resources and technology in the two units to better serve Atlas' customers, agents and van operators.
"Bob brings a wealth of transportation knowledge and leadership to Atlas," said Glen Dunkerson, president and chief operating officer of Atlas Van Lines, Inc. "He's known for being results-oriented and making good companies even better. With his expertise and fresh outlook, we hope to streamline our operations department and create a more efficient unit."
Zimmerman was raised in the Chicago suburb of Arlington Heights and attended Millikin University in Decatur, Ill.
