EVANSVILLE, Ind. — Accel, Atlas Van Lines' premium household goods shipment option, has helped a third-party relocation firm earn the prestigious gold CQIA Innovation Prize from the Connecticut Quality Improvement Award Partnership (CQIA). Cartus was recognized for its "Small Shipment Containerized Program" — a program that uses Atlas' Accel.

Created to expedite small- to medium-size shipments of less than 5,000 pounds, Accel uses a specially designed shipping container with a 270-cubic-foot capacity. Each molded polymer container can handle approximately 1,400 pounds and is sized to accommodate most household furnishings. Using the Accel program, delivery time from Los Angeles to New York City is slashed by as much as 12 days. Containers used for the Accel program also include GPS tracking.

"We're very excited that Cartus was honored for using the Accel system," said Greg Hoover, senior vice president and chief marketing officer for Atlas World Group. "But we're more excited that Accel can provide Cartus customers with a better, faster, safer and more efficient alternative to the traditional household goods transportation pipeline."

Atlas introduced Accel in late 2006 and offers the expedited shipping method in 58 cities across the U.S. Cartus has offered the service since 2007.

"It's clear that applying innovative thinking can support efficiency and improve customer satisfaction," said Pat DeDonato, vice president of supply chain management for Cartus Corporation. "By partnering with Atlas on our small shipment containerized program, we've been able to do just that."
