SALEM, Va. — Pitzer Transfer & Storage Inc., located in Salem, Va., has announced a change in ownership. The agency was acquired from People's Services Inc. by five members of the family that originally founded the company in 1883 — Andrew, Charles, Lewis and Vance Pitzer and Martin Quarles.
The Pitzer family sold the company to People's Services in 1992, but the agency continued to operate under the name of Pitzer Transfer & Storage Corp. Pitzer has been an Atlas agent for over 20 years.
"Atlas agents across the United States bring a personalized approach to their clients," said Glen Dunkerson, president and chief operating officer of Atlas Van Lines. "We're confident that Pitzer Transfer & Storage will continue to be known for its quality service and high standards under the Pitzer family's leadership."
In 2008 Pitzer Transfer & Storage will commemorate 125 years of service — a venture that began with one team of horses and a sturdy wagon. Today, it's a full-service relocation company, providing packing, protected storage, and local, long-distance and international transportation services.
"Customers in our service area, a 100-mile radius around Salem, have come to expect nothing but the best when it comes to service," said Lewis Pitzer, president of Pitzer Transfer & Storage Inc. "Customer satisfaction is our principal goal and the driving force behind the company's longevity. We look forward to working with Atlas to continue the highest level of satisfaction available to customers in need of relocation services."
