EVANSVILLE, Ind. — Atlas Van Lines was recognized for the second consecutive year as a company that values family friendly practices. The Evansville, Ind.-based company received the Family Friendly Health and Benefits Award at the 2006 Diversity and Family Friendly Conference and Award program on Oct. 26.

The program honors companies within the tri-state area of southwestern Indiana, northwestern Kentucky and southeastern Illinois that are leaders in developing family friendly and diverse workplaces. The program's goal is to strengthen the community and increase the number of family friendly companies serving its residents.

Independent judges examined Atlas' health and benefits, such as its 401(k), retirement, education assistance and personal and professional development programs, as well as opportunities for recreation and team events. Atlas, with 453 employees, received the award in the medium-sized company category for the third time in five years.

"Atlas is honored to be a three-time recipient of this award. It speaks volumes to prospective employees when they realize we've been identified as a family friendly company, a characteristic that's very important to our potential workforce," said Mike Shaffer, Atlas chairman and CEO. "We regularly review our benefits packages because we're committed to providing the best possible healthcare, investment and lifestyle options for our employees while remaining a place people want to work."

Now in its seventh year, the award program is presented by the Evansville-Area Human Resource Association, Workforce Investment Board and the Metropolitan Evansville Chamber of Commerce.
