EVANSVILLE, Ind. — Atlas Van Lines was recognized as a company that embraces family-friendly practices at the 2005 Family-Friendly & Diversity Practices Award luncheon on Oct. 14. Atlas received the Family-Friendly Health and Benefit Programs Award.
By honoring companies within the Tri-State area of southwestern Indiana, northwestern Kentucky and southeastern Illinois, the program hopes to strengthen the community and increase the number of family-friendly companies serving its residents.
Independent judges examined Atlas' health and benefits programs, such as its 401(k) and retirement programs, education assistance programs, personal and professional development programs and opportunities for recreation and team events. Atlas, with 432 employees, received the award in the medium-sized company category.
"We strive to create a healthy work environment for all of our employees and that includes a family-friendly health and benefits program," said Mike Shaffer, Atlas chairman and CEO. "We believe that's a good thing for our employees, and we believe it strengthens the Evansville community as a whole. We're honored to receive this award."
Now in its sixth year, the award program is presented by the Evansville-Area Human Resource Association, Workforce Investment Board and the Metropolitan Evansville Chamber of Commerce.
