EVANSVILLE, Ind. — The communities of Covington and Slidell, La., will receive a shipment of relief from Evansville this weekend, courtesy of Atlas Van Lines and area residents. Donations such as bottled water, insect repellent and chain saws will be collected beginning today and continuing through 4 p.m. Saturday at Atlas headquarters, 1212 St. George Rd, at the corner of St. George and U.S. 41. Donations should be taken to the Atlas main entrance.

Items needed include:
  • Bottled water/juices/Gatorade
  • Non-perishable food items such as canned meats, tuna, canned and instant meals, dry cereal and powdered milk
  • Diapers and formula
  • Clothing items
  • Insect repellent with DEET
  • Baby wipes/toothpaste/personal hygiene items
  • Advil/Tylenol/aspirin/bandages — basic first aid supplies
  • Chain saws and plastic gas containers
  • Cash

"As transportation routes continue to clear up and more specific community needs are identified, we plan to do even more to help," says Mike Shaffer, Atlas chairman and CEO. "While there are obviously many communities in need, Covington and Slidell were specifically brought to our attention by Atlas agencies in the area. We know this is a small gesture relative to the tremendous needs being faced by people throughout the Gulf Coast."
