EVANSVILLE, Ind. — The Trucking Industry Defense Association (TIDA) presented its highest award the 2004 John T. Biezup Memorial Service Award to Marian Weilert Sauvey, Atlas World Group and Atlas Van Lines general counsel, vice president & secretary. TIDA presents the award annually to one of its members for dedicated service, excellence, and commitment to defense of the trucking industry. The presentation was even more special due to the fact that Ms. Sauvey's husband, who founded TIDA, was selected by TIDA to present the award to her.

"This is a wonderful award and I am honored that my peers have recognized me," said Sauvey. "I appreciate the opportunity to serve Atlas and will continue to stand for the service and excellence that come with this award."

The award is named in honor of the late John T. Biezup who died in 1994. Biezup was a charter member of TIDA and a partner in a Philadelphia law firm, and is often described as a tireless and innovative lawyer dedicated to serving and defending his client's interests. Each year, the Board of Directors chooses a TIDA member they believe exemplifies Biezup's spirit of service not only to the organization, but also to his or her clients in the trucking industry.

"The fact that I knew John makes the honor of this award even more special to me. John was a pioneer, a great lawyer, and mentored a lot of attorneys in the transportation law field. There are many attorneys who wouldn't be where they are today without his help," Sauvey added.

Sauvey is also a member of the Transportation Lawyers Association, the Conference of Freight Counsel, the Canadian Transportation Lawyers Association and the American Moving and Storage Association Legal Advisory Council, of which she is currently serving as chairman.

Sauvey graduated summa cum laude from Rockhurst College in Kansas City with a B.A. and with highest distinction from the University of Missouri, Kansas City School of Law in 1978. She has been with Atlas since 1993, and was named general counsel in 1997.
