Atlas Honors Drivers on September 9th "ROAD Day" - Drivers Weigh-in on Road Favorites

EVANSVILLE, IN -- While Americans continue to be on the move, the Atlas drivers who transport these families across the country are always honored the second Tuesday each September during ROAD Day. ROAD (Recognizing Our Atlas Drivers) Day acknowledges Atlas' approximately 3,200 drivers with local celebrations at participating agencies throughout the United States and Canada. For participating agents and cities, visit to find a celebration nearby.

"Our drivers have worked hard all year and it's important to let them know that we appreciate the great job they're doing each and every day." said Jim Stamm, president and COO, Atlas Van Lines. "ROAD Day is Atlas' way of saying thanks to our drivers."

Now in its 16th year, ROAD Day is traditionally held at the conclusion of the busiest moving time of the year — summer. Spending countless hours behind the wheel, these drivers know what is tops when it comes to rest stops, highways, road food, antacids and more. Over 100 Atlas drivers have cast their votes for "Best of the Road" in the 2003 Atlas Survey of Drivers Tendencies. The results are in and among the highlights:

  • Country Music is Still Tops — but NPR is a close second (36% to 32%)
  • Most Scenic Highway — 1-70 in Colorado
  • When the Stomach Turns, it's Rolaids beating Tums
  • Fast Food Faves - Wendy's first (29%), KFC second (21%) McDonald's and Burger King (7%)
  • Breaker, Breaker? Atlas truckers use Cell phones (95%) over CB Radios (62%)
