Atlas' Atlantic Relocation Systems Honored by National Client

June 26, 2000

Atlantic Relocation Systems of Dallas was recognized for service excellence recently by EDS, an information technology company that relocates from 1,500 to 2,000 employees each year. An agent of Atlas Van Lines, Atlantic Relocation Systems is Atlas' second-largest agent group. With its headquarters in Atlanta, Georgia, Atlantic Relocation has 11 branch offices throughout the southeast, mid-west, and southwest.

The EDS carrier recognition award is based on criteria that measures customer service, claims, personnel performance, and overall cost effectiveness, says Rocky Crawford, Supplier Relationship Manager for the EDS relocation division. EDS maintains contracts with four household goods movers who conduct the company's employee relocations - both domestic and international. Atlantic Relocation earned the award for their work with EDS during 1999.

"When we evaluate our carriers we look at several issues, but EDS places most of the weight on the input we get from our customer surveys," Crawford notes. "The number of claims our employees have to file and the average amount of those claims is important to us. But the most critical issue to EDS is whether the move was a positive experience for our employee, and what the employee and other corporate people have to say about their personal dealings with that particular carrier."

Atlantic Relocation Systems has provided relocation services to EDS since 1996. Atlantic was established as a household goods mover in 1966 and more recently has grown and developed its special products division, which transports high value electronics, new furniture and store fixtures, exhibits, art, and other goods requiring specialized handling. Last year the carrier took fourth place among Atlas Van Lines' special products haulers.

When Atlantic Relocation became an Atlas agent in 1997, the move from its former corporate employer marked the largest agency conversion in the history of the van line industry. That year, total loaded volume for Atlas Van Lines increased 34 percent due to the conversion and other contributing factors, Atlas officials say. Atlas has held its position as the fastest-growing van line in the nation for 11 consecutive years.

"We enjoy working with Atlantic. They give us very good service on a consistent basis," Crawford says. "We expect that from our carriers, and can't have it any other way."

With its world headquarters in Evansville, Ind., Atlas Van Lines is a major transporter of household goods and special products through some 600 agents across the U.S. and Canada and more than 800 worldwide. Atlas is the nation's fourth-largest van line and ranks as third-largest carrier of household goods.
