EVANSVILLE (Ind.) -- Alexander's Moving & Storage Inc., an Atlas Van Lines agent, has been named a finalist in the 1996 Positive Performer Awards, sponsored by Inc. magazine and MCI. The national award program is the first of its kind to acknowledge small companies for their ingenuity and entrepreneurial spirit in providing superior customer service.
Alexander's was one of 40 finalists chosen from a field of 479 applicants, and the only van line agent selected. Companies were nominated in four categories: manufacturing, retail sales, not-for-profit, and the service category in which Alexander's was selected. The award recognizes growing companies operating as independent, privately held companies, conducting business for at least three years, and grossing between $200,000 and $100 million for the year.
"As innovators in their fields, these finalist companies realize that putting their customers first is the key to leaping beyond their competitors," said Timothy F. Price, President of MCI Telecommunications.
A panel of experts made up of business owners, CEOs, consultants, and an Inc. editor evaluated the entries. Alexander's and the other 1996 Positive Performer Award finalists were honored at a gala ceremony held in San Diego, Calif., March 11 - 13.
Alexander's Moving & Storage, with corporate headquarters in Tustin, Calif., is the largest multi-agency combination of companies for Atlas Van Lines. Alexander's nationwide locations include Hayward, Calif.; San Diego, Calif.; Portland, Ore.; Baltimore, Md.; Minneapolis/St. Paul, Minn.; and Nashville, Tenn.
