Atlas Cyber-House Helps People on the Move Feel Right at Home; Gives Tips on Everything from Moving Computers to Packing Waterbeds

May 1, 1996

EVANSVILLE, (Ind.) -- Moving your computer? What better place to get advice than on-line. Atlas Van Lines has launched its World Wide Web site, featuring moving tips on everything from computers to plants, pets, waterbeds, and more. It's a direct communication link to moving experts.

The Atlas Interchange is a junction on the information highway for getting information on all aspects of moving. The site includes a first-of-its-kind cyber "How-To House," where you are invited to come inside, look around, and help yourself to advice on how to make moving as stress-free as possible. Step inside the house and you will find answers to questions like, What are my destination state's pet entry laws? What moving expenses can I deduct from my taxes? How can I make sure my African Violet survives the trip? A simple click on a room within the house and you can get answers to these, and other, common moving questions.

A kids' page features moving-related games from Buddy The Moving Van. Kids can sign-up to become a Buddy Club member, or be one of Buddy's "budding" artists by getting their own drawing of Buddy posted on the site. In the future, the page will include home safety tips and a question and answer format for children preparing to move.

There's even a Dear Atlas page, of sorts. "Moving Stories" offers consumers a place to vent their past moving frustrations. In turn, Atlas offers suggestions on how to prevent future moving mishaps.

"Because the internet is information-driven, it's the perfect vehicle for providing consumers with hands-on information about moving," explains Steve Mumma, sr. vice president of marketing and public relations for Atlas Van Lines household goods division. "We've tried to make the site as fun and user-friendly as possible to help anyone, from kids to adults, through the moving process."

Visitors to the site can contact Atlas, via e-mail, with any specific questions, or use the agent locator map to find an agent nearest them. Atlas plans to expand its site by adding detailed information on corporate relocation, international relocation, and specialized transportation services. The site can be accessed at: www.atlasvanlines.com.

With world headquarters in Evansville, Indiana, Atlas Van Lines is a major transporter of household goods and special products through some 600 agents across the U.S. and Canada, and over 800 worldwide.
