Charlotte, known as Queen City, is located 85 miles east of the Appalachian Mountains and 180 miles northwest of the Atlantic Ocean. Close enough for either to be an easy weekend getaway. In 1768, Charlotte was incorporated as a town in honor of Queen Charlotte of England. Nearly 30 years later, gold was discovered near Charlotte and the city boomed into the mining capitol of the country. Fast forwarding to the 1900s, Charlotte continued its market development with textile production, and today Charlotte’s economy is still expanding as their banking and finance sector grows.
