During a move, you're often so busy trying to figure out how to get everything to your new house that you don't stop to consider what you can or should leave behind. For example, it's usually a good idea to use or donate all of your food before traveling to your new location. You wouldn't want anything to spill or spoil and create a mess.
Low-quality furniture is another thing you should consider getting rid of before your move date. Cheap furnishings are easily chipped and torn, so don't worry about transferring them to your new location, especially if you've planned to purchase new pieces already. Instead donate them or consider having a moving sale.
It's also not a good idea to try to pack anything that's flammable or explosive, such as propane, firearms or lighter fluid. Not only is relocating these items dangerous, but most moving companies will not move them for you.
