Moving During the Holidays

Nov 25, 2015

As if moving by itself isn’t stressful enough, imagine moving during the busy holiday season. For some, there is no option, but there are many ways you can make your holiday move a little less hectic and a little more cheerful. Here are some tips on how to keep the holiday spirit alive even during your relocation.

Make Moving Arrangements as Early as Possible: It is important to remember to plan ahead when coordinating a move during the holidays. A few weeks before your closing date, set a schedule to begin packing rooms in your house to minimize the amount of work you will have to do right before your move. It is also a good idea to call a reputable moving company to schedule your pack and load date as soon as you know you are moving. Hiring a moving company will save you so much time, money, and stress. It will also speed up the process of your move, which is important during the crazy holiday season.

Don’t Forget the Décor: You may not want to go all out with Christmas decorating if your move is close to the actual holiday, but that doesn’t mean you can’t decorate at all! Putting up a smaller tree that won’t be too painful to take down and move again is a great option. There are also smaller decorations that can be hung up and taken down quickly before or after the move. Check out this Atlas Pinterest Board for simple ideas on décor that can be easily moved. The rest of the bigger items can be packed and hung up once you are settled into your new home.

Explore and Discover New Ways to Celebrate: There are usually many opportunities for starting a new holiday tradition throughout the months of November and December. It is important to keep your family busy leading up to your move, especially if you have children. Many communities have holiday activities that occur during this time of the year. Take time to enjoy spending time with your family, and begin a new tradition that will take some of the pressure off of your move, such as eating out on Christmas Eve instead of stressing over a big meal.

Keep the Holiday Spirit Alive: Take time to remember what the holiday season is all about, and to not get too overwhelmed by what still needs to be unpacked or finished after you move. There will be plenty of time after the holiday season to unpack the rest of your belongings. Enjoy being with your family, in your new home. Take this time to explore your new neighborhood and make new friends- and don’t forget to spread the holiday cheer!

Atlas Van Lines hopes that you have a wonderful holiday season and a successful move!
